Breaking news! Our very own Malcolm Cloutt has received the honour of the Queen’s Maundy Money this year. A tradition that started in 1699, and one that Queen Elizabeth II views as an important part of her devotional life, Maundy money recipients today are pensioners, chosen on an interdenominational basis from various Christian churches for their service to their churches and communities.
The Royal Maundy Service was due to take place this year in Westminster Abbey. The Queen traditionally gives out Maundy Money every year, and the gift is in recognition of Christian service. Malcolm Cloutt was put forward to receive this year’s Maundy money due to his exemplary Christian service which includes his work with the Gideons – giving out bibles – helping to build a church in Myanmar, helping children to read at Princes Risborough Primary School and always providing a listening ear to the children.
The red purse contains the traditional sum of £5.50. the £5 coin commemorates her Majesty’s 95th birthday and the 50p coin portrays the 50th anniversary of decimalisation in 1971.
The white purse contains silver pennies totalling 95p corresponding to the Sovereign’s age, all newly minted this year.
