Funerals at St Mary’s

When someone close to you dies there is a lot to think about which can feel overwhelming at times.

A funeral is usual to mark the end of a person’s life on earth and friends and family come together to express grief, commend the person to God’s care and give thanks for a life lived.

Here at St Mary’s we would like to help you as much as we can

Please contact the undertaker first who will liaise with us and check that a minister is available for the date you would like. The minister will meet with you and help you with the planning of the service.

St Mary’s Church, Princes Risborough and St Peter’s Church, Ilmer are the two churches within the parish of Princes Risborough. Everyone living in the parish is entitled to a Church of England funeral or thanksgiving service whether they attended church or not. Funerals can be held at one of the churches or one of the local crematoriums and will be taken by one of our authorised ministers.

The graveyard

The graveyard at St Mary’s is now full and closed for burials (except where there are existing family graves). There are still some spaces left at St Peter’s. There is also still some space for interment of ashes at St Mary’s. Burials within Princes Risborough parish usually now take place at the Stratton Memorial Garden and are subject to their conditions and regulations as set out by Princes Risborough Town Council.

There is lots of information on the Church of England website to help you with planning a funeral and we highly recommend you visit this site here: https://www.churchofengland.org/life-events/funerals
