St Mary's Church - Prayer

Page last updated 14 August 2009

United prayer is part of our Vision.  There is no substitute for humbly seeking the presence and mind of God.  Prayer, whether in silence, word or song, is something which the people of God make time for.

A prayer for our parish.

Almighty God, you have made us members of Christ and of his Church in this parish. May we as a congregation reach upwards to your throne in worship and adoration; inwards to one another in understanding and fellowship; and outwards to the world in evangelism and social compassion.

Make us like a city set on a hill whose light cannot be hidden, so that men and women may find Christ as the light of the world, and his Church as the family of the redeemed, and eternal life as the gift of God through Jesus Christ our Lord.   (Maurice A.P.Wood)

Prayers for the Church Renewal

A one-hour prayer meeting will take place after the 10am Parish Communion service on Sunday 20th September, starting at 11.30am. All are welcome and are encouraged to come. The gathering will consist of thanksgiving for what has already been achieved, intercession for the fund-raising and various difficulties to be overcome, silent reflection and prayer as the Spirit moves. It is intended that this will become a monthly occasion.

A small group also meets on Wednesday mornings from 9.00 to 9.30 am in St Mary's Church to pray for the needs of the Church Renewal Project. Anyone is welcome to join this group on either a regular or occasional basis.

Prayer request book

A prayer request book is kept in the Church. Parishioners and visitors may write their prayer requests in the book.  These prayer are then offered during the intercessionary prayer at the Morning Prayer Services.
